Lafayette Parish Flood Map

Lafayette parish has had four official flood insurance rate maps (called firms). These are the maps that will continue to be in effect until december 20, 2018. At the huc2 level, louisiana is split between three regions.

Moving at a breakneck pace, lcg has dozens of drainage projects in the works. For quite a few years now, our local officials have been working with fema, residents, and other community officials to accurately update our flood maps. 21, the owners of 4,500 lafayette parish properties will find they're now in a flood zone and may be required to purchase flood insurance.

Another 4,500 properties in the parish will be removed from flood zones with the new map, said stephanie weeks, flood plain manager for lafayette consolidated government.

For quite a few years now, our local officials have been working with fema, residents, and other community officials to accurately update our flood maps. The parish began updating its flood maps in 2007. It’s 2018 and today’s cutting edge technology has allowed the nfip to more accurately define special flood hazard areas (sfha). The historic maps are dated 1980, 1985, and 1988 with the most recent effective maps which originated on january 19, 1996, with one small area changed in january 1999.
